Serbia international Nemanja Matic believes Anthony Martial can still make a lot of progress in his professional career. The Frenchman has been in impressive touch since the turn of the year, and he has scored in three successive Premier League matches including the winner in the 1-0 triumph over Burnley last weekend.
In a report covered by The Manchester Evening News, Matic spoke positively about the showing of Martial despite the club seemingly on the cusp of signing Alexis Sanchez, he said: “Anthony is a great player as you know and he scored an important goal today. He is very important for our club, our team. He’s still young and can still improve. I’m sure he with help us a lot.”
Sanchez has primarily played on the left side of the attack during his time at Arsenal, but the Chilean could be slotted on the other flank at Old Trafford with Mourinho likely to want keep Martial in the team whilst he is a good run. The Frenchman initially found himself behind Marcus Rashford in the pecking order, but he has won over the manager by showcasing his clinical nature in front of goal.
Despite this, United remain 12 points off catching Manchester City in the Premier League standings, and their title hunt is more or less over unless their cross-town rivals suffer a major setback during the backend of the campaign.
With Sanchez in their ranks, United may look to better their chances of winning the FA Cup, where the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool have bowed in the third and fourth round respectively. United don’t seem to have an easy route to the famous old competition with Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City still in the hunt, but they could have a good go, considering it is a typical knockout with not much to lose.
