The Serbian national team manager Sinisa Mihajlovic has said that he is extremely satisfied with the outcome of the recent friendly match with the Republic of Ireland. Serbia were taking on Republic of Ireland in a friendly match prior to the start of the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Serbia will be facing the likes of Wales and Croatia in their efforts to reach the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. However, they have not been having the best of form in recent times due to the absence of players like Nemanja Vidic. The return of the Manchester United defender did not prevent Serbia from drawing the match against the Republic of Ireland.
The Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni was also been possible mood after the match by saying that this was a good precursor to the World Cup qualifying campaign. The two teams were unable to find the back of the net in the dull 0-0 draw. Only 5000 fans turned up to see the match at the Red Star Belgrade’s stadium. Both teams failed to produce even a single player cut chance to score, which was the most disappointing aspect. However, the Serbian manager Sinisa Mihajlovic said that he wants to look at the positives.
“We have made sweeping changes and it takes time to rebuild a team, but I remain optimistic about our chances of qualifying for the World Cup. We were impressive at the back and I am confident that we will be able to add some bite to our attack before our opening qualifier against Scotland. We know our fans expect instant success but that’s easier said than done and overall I am happy with our performance and the result,” said the manager after the match. Serbia will face Scotland in the upcoming World Cup qualifying match.
