The Serbian national football team failed to qualify to the 2014 FIFA World Cup as well as the 2008 and 2012 edition of the UEFA Euro’s.
It’s clear that in recent times they have been struggling to make their presence felt at the international stage and recently, a new manager was selected that can hopefully change things around for the national side.
One of the first things that the recently elected coach of Serbia, Slavoljub Muslin said was he wants his players to feel passion for wearing the jersey of their country, according to the 63 year old manager this is something that they have not been doing but wants to change.
‘’The players have to take the lion’s share of the blame for missing out on three successive major tournaments. I will try to instill more passion in them because to play for your national team, you have to love your country. It’s about motivation and not money.’’
‘’All the other former Yugoslav republics have it and if we can show the same level of determination, I am confident we can reach the 2018 tournament in Russia from a tough qualifying section.’’ Serbia’s Slavoljub Muslin said.
Serbia was pitted in group D along with Wales, Austria, Republic of Ireland, Moldova and Georgia. Serbia’s opening qualification match is against Republic of Ireland.
Slavoljub Muslin has coached over 15 clubs in his managerial career, he has vast experience in taking over teams but this is the first that Muslin is in charge of a national side. Nonetheless, he does appear to be very clear about what needs to be accomplished in order to bring Serbia back to life and help them start qualifying for major international competitions.
