Serbia national football team boss Slavoljub Muslin says that he is quite happy with the 1-1 draw achieved against Russia just before the start of the Euro 2016.
However, he has identified with the lack of a proper defensive midfielder as an area of concern. The Serbian has taken over the role of the national team boss only in May 2016. He came to the position at a time when the national team was struggling after having just failed to qualify for the Euro 2016. For a team with quality international players like Branislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic, reaching the Euro 2016 would have been expected.
However, the team even failed to qualify for the play-off places and ended up finishing a whopping eight points behind third placed Denmark. In fact, they could only get two more points than Armenia, who are far below them in the FIFA rankings.Muslin says that Serbia could have gone on to win the game against Russia for the number of chances that they created in the game. This was a great opportunity for the 62-year-old to learn about his squad. After having been in charge of numerous clubs in his extensive coaching career,Muslin is taking over the role as the national team boss for the first time.
“We had more chances but we did not realize. There are many reasons for satisfaction. There, Milunović is debuting in this team, and played well. Overall, we played well in defense. I’ll fix efficiency. We have done much in the last fifteen days . We have more to do on the last ball in the offensive. It is very difficult to say the first 11, we’re short a few players who were not here because of injuries,” said the manager citing the numerous injuries suffered by his players in recent weeks.
